A leading manufacturer of radio communications equipment, Wood & Douglas needed a database solution to better manage the multiple elements involved in each project undertaken by the business.

The company comprises many departments including production, research and development, marketing, accounts, service and dispatch. Every department has input into a project, which are often intricate because of the complexity of the technology and clients' requirements.

Historically each department had used either hard copy ledgers or simple spreadsheets to track their processes. These spreadsheets would often reside on a single user's computer meaning information could not be shared throughout the firm or, worse, was unknown to colleagues in other parts of the business.

Working with FileMaker Business Alliance member (with Platinum status) MaJic, Wood & Douglas started using FileMaker ten years ago – a move that has transformed the way information is accessed and shared around the company. Now using version 10 of the software, MaJic has integrated FileMaker with the firm's manufacturing requirement planning system, so the database has become the company's primary source of information on all aspects of the business.

Each and every department now has access to other key dependent areas of the business meaning important decisions can be made within hours rather than days, as before.
An accurate audit trail exists for every aspect of an individual product's lifecycle including its customer order, materials used, production, test results, shipping, faults, repairs and service.
Senior managers have a clear overview of virtually every process at play within the business and can run meaningful reports to support decisions.
In some instances information from the FileMaker solution is being presented on a secure web page, enabling clients to keep track of their project and Wood & Douglas to offer improved customer service.
