Keep your 2012 Resolutions with Bento

Welcome to the January 2012 issue of Bento eNews.

Hopefully your Christmas brought you everything you could ask for; time with friends and family, gifts given and received and maybe one too many mince pies.

Now that the decorations have been packed away, and the New Year well and truly wrung in, it's time to set some goals for 2012.

To start you off with a few ideas, we have trawled through the Bento Template Exchange, in a quest for the best templates from fellow Bento users to help you make a fresh start this January.

Now Hiring

Filling out job applications can be a complex and tedious process. Make your life a little easier with the Work History template by Michael Christensen. Keep track of when and where you work, your roles and responsibilites, salary and benefits and employer contact details. Vital when requesting references!

Lance Armstrong Beware!

While winning the Tour de France may be an unrealistic resolution for most of us, keeping a record of your training schedule, monitoring health levels and improvements, using Bicycle Tyro's Cycling template might help you on your way to winning the local 10k, or just track your progress around the local park!

The Great Escape

Stop promising to take the trip of a lifetime and make 2012 the year of your great escape. Use the Travel Planner template by Noah, to plan your itinerary, track hotels, resturants and vehicle rentals. Feeling adventurous? Modify the template and take it with you; use Bento for iPad to make sure you stick to the budget, are on time for flights and have a note of exactly where that great little Italian resturant was.

Movie Magic

Your stocking may have included some Hollywood Christmas classics, A Wonderful Life, A Muppet Christmas Carol, Die Hard; but now is the time to organise them, along with the 400 other DVDs you have scattered around the house. Use the Movie Library template to keep track of what you have, who it stars, if you've watched it and your review. Import the template to Bento for iPhone and have your movie database in your pocket, because no matter how cheap Home Alone is in the sale, nobody needs two copies.

Whether you are looking to progress your career, improve your health, go on the trip of a lifetime, finally organise the mountain of DVDs before the inevitable avalanche, Bento can help. Keeping to the resolutions however, is down to you!

 Rugby Player

Kicking off with Bento for iPhone

Having been talked into becoming Team Administrator for his son's under 13s Rugby Team, Simon Cooper decided that the various bits of paper and spreadsheets that he had thrust upon him just weren’t going to cut it.

A long time user of FileMaker Pro and Bento, Simon decided that a database was the answer and headed over to the Bento Template Exchange to see what was on offer:

“Whilst normally I'd always start from scratch on a database project this time I headed over to the Bento Template Exchange and downloaded one for a football club, changed it to rugby and set about importing and inputting all the data.”

Adding a few fields here and there, soon Simon had a Bento database tailored to his needs.

With the purchase of an iPod touch, Simon discovered the “wow factor” of Bento:

“I bought an iPod touch and installed Bento for iPhone. I then synced the rugby club database with my iPod and everything just worked, first time, including the photos, check boxes - everything.”

By using Bento for iPhone, Simon has removed the risk of taking his MacBook Pro out in to the rain and mud, literally adding and amending data ‘in the field’.
