Finding Single Words, Finding the First Word in a Field

Normally, the Find command finds any record with the search word in any position. Thus, if you search on the word "Deli", FileMaker finds all records that have this word anywhere in the field. To find only the records with the search word as the first word, do the following.

"FileMaker Go Data Synchronisation and Version Management Techniques" web seminar

One of the many benefits of FileMaker Go is that it allows you to deploy databases to a distributed workforce that can run independently of network connections. You will need to have strategies for keeping local FileMaker Go databases synchronised with databases running FileMaker Server and providing each user with the latest version of a FileMaker Go database.
This session, created by James Wesolowski, Managing Principal of Colibri Solutions, will explore real world data synchronisation techniques and a method for one-click updates of FileMaker Go databases.

FileMaker user groups make learning social

While you'll find plenty of great community based advice at our User Group pages over at www.filemaker.co.uk, sometimes it's nice to get some friendly face-to-face advice and knowledge sharing too.

That's just the kind of thing you'll find at one of our User Group meetings, which are run regularly across the country, bringing together FileMaker developers and professionals from the local area to share information and best practice.

The FileMaker South West Users group, hosted by Nick Stockbridge at the Transmedia Training offices in Bristol, is going from strength to strength. "Maybe people have heard how helpful the group is to one another", says Nick. "We alternate between specific topic demonstrations, such as creating a universal 'Back' navigation between layouts, and free-for-all sessions, where members bring in their projects to ask for assistance from others. There's always someone with a good idea to share and we have room for more".

Removing Non Numeric Characters

You can remove all non numeric characters from a text field by using a calculation. If you have a field called "Incorrect Phone Number", you can create a calculation field and have the result be a number.
