Hello, and welcome to summer's FileMaker eNews!

So, since there seems to be little better to do than wrap up warm and settle down with a hot drink, why not take a read through some of this month's articles? I think that's what those in the industry call a 'flawless segue'.

TIME Harvest

Print Week features TimeHarvest MIS
One of the most well-researched investments ever made

Cumbria based Cypher Digital originally started as an imagesetting department within a local Apple Centre in 1990. The company serves a broad client base that stretches as far afield as the Falklands, offering products ranging from business cards to large-scale exhibition stands. It has a turnover of £823,000 and 13 staff.

The home-made MIS the company were running had become unwieldy and managing director Paul Calland wanted something that simplified the workflow and enabled the company to keep a better eye on costs. Hence, in the middle of 2010, Cypher went on the hunt for an MIS that could pull everything into one system, that could cope with its eclectic business mix and that could improve the business operations. What occurred next was one of the most well-researched investments ever made.

FileMaker user groups make learning social

UK FileMaker User Groups

While you'll find plenty of great community based advice at our User Group pages over at www.filemaker.co.uk, sometimes it's nice to get some friendly face-to-face advice and knowledge sharing too.

That's just the kind of thing you'll find at one of our User Group meetings, which are run regularly across the country, bringing together FileMaker developers and professionals from the local area to share information and best practice.

Chris Boulton of CJM Software runs a regular User Group session under the title of FileMaker Developers West. "This year we've already run sessions that look at some key elements of FileMaker such as custom functions and security structures," he says. "It's a light-hearted, informal chance for developers to get together and share knowledge away from their computer screens!"

Forthcoming Meetings:

   • FileMaker Developers West, Cheltenham, 19:30-21:00, 26th July 2011
   • FM Northern, Leeds, 17:00, 28th July 2011
   • FMSCOT, Stirling, 12:30-16:30, 2nd September 2011
   • FMSCOT, Dundee, 12:30-16:30, 19th December 2011

Using object anchors with the iPhone and iPad

Knowledge Base

iPhone and iPad users can rotate their devices from landscape to portrait at any time. FileMaker Go does an excellent job of handling this by using object anchors. In the new Contacts, Assets and Documents Starter Solution designed for iPhone and iPad, we've included anchors on fields and other layout objects so that the solutions look good in landscape and portrait. You can download all three Starter Solutions with the On-the-Go Kit. So how do you add anchors?

How can we let users work offline in FileMaker Go and then get their work back to the main FileMaker Pro system when they finally get an internet connection?
