Cad and The Dandy win the Bento Entrepreneur of the Year Award
LONDON, UK – 25th June 2010 – Founders of online tailoring firm Cad and the Dandy won the Bento Entrepreneur of the Year Award at this year's Macworld Awards. London based business partners, Ian Meiers and James Sleater flew the flag for entrepreneurs across the country as they accepted the trophy, proving that there is life in British industry yet.
FileMaker teamed up with Macworld magazine to celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit of the age by creating Bento Entrepreneur of the Year award. The award is designed to recognise innovative and daring entrepreneurs from around the UK whose actions have had a dramatic effect on their own lives and in turn may have impacted the industry they work in.
This year's Macworld Awards, held on 24th June at The Northumberland, Trafalgar Square, proved to be hugely successful, packed full of talented individuals and brilliant companies picking up well deserved awards. Amongst the guests were those shortlisted for the Bento Entrepreneur of the year award; a mixed bag of talented and inspirational young professionals, each deserving recognition for their business ventures. But on the night there could only be one winner; Cad and the Dandy showed true talent and a real flair for business.
Operating out of The City and Saville Row, they offer high end bespoke tailoring with a unique twist. Cad and the Dandy believe that luxury tailoring should be accessible to all and vow never to over complicate things, simply offering fine suits cut from British material and homegrown talented tailors. The judging panel, which included Laban Roomes, the entrepreneur who wowed the Dragon's Den panel with his company Gold Genie, felt the business model was genuine and showed a huge amount of class and business acumen.
"The past 18-24 months have been the most challenging that UK businesses have ever faced," Says Tony Speakman, Regional Manager for FileMaker International, "So it's great to see the entrepreneurial spirit still alive and well. At FileMaker we highly value creativity, enthusiasm and innovation – qualities that our entrants have in spades. Cad and Dandy have proven that with determination businesses can succeed, even in the toughest of economic climates. It goes to show that while recessions may come and go, and political parties may rise and fall, one thing remains constant and that's the resilience and creativity of British business."
Other shortlisted entries which also exemplified the spirit of entrepreneurialism included Pipetto, designers of glamourous accessories, Mubaloo, designers of apps for smartphones; Solid Contracts, a 3D CAD recruitment firm; Love Soul Choir, the first choir of its kind to provide all-round development of vocalists and c2emd, inventors of a modular system to produce ultraclean air environments in enclosed areas. All entrants showed a real talent and though they didn't win on the night, there can be no doubt of their future success.
